Go Pack! In many ways 2016 brought my career and education full circle. I taught journalism at my undergraduate alma mater – N.C. State University.
From surprising class discussions, visits from professional reporters and communicators, and a special stop at a local television station, it was a year to remember.
During the Spring and Fall semesters I instructed students in three classes of News and Article Writing and one class of Copy Editing each semester.
Yes, that’s eight classes in one year, and each class was filled with bright and energetic students. I am optimistic about the future of journalism. For those students who are still willing to enter the career, it was a great help to have professionals visit our class. My students and I are grateful to:
- Joseph Neff, N&O Investigative Reporter
- Rick Willis, News14 News Director
- Amanda Lamb, WRAL-TV Crime Reporter
- Thea Neal – Hallmark Cards Social Media Lead
- Jessie Ammons – Walter Magazine Asst. Editor
- Jodi Leese-Glusco, WRAL-TV Digital Director
- Mary Cornatzer, N&O Editor
- Alan Wolf, Rex Media Relations Manager
- Jim Sughrue, Raleigh Police PIO
- Mandy Locke, N&O Investigative Reporter
- Rob Christensen, N&O Political Columnist
We were happy to teach WRAL’s Amanda Lamb (a Duke Blue Devil) how to do the Wolf Pack victory sign. The professionals in Wake County and my students made it a great year!
